Celebrating our Female Designers

Our founding mother, Susan was one of Britain’s most celebrated designers of the second half of the twentieth century. An exquisite artist and spirited designer, Susan's designs continue to inspire the ceramics industry today, over 60 years after launching Portmeirion pottery.  

By the age of 42, Susan was on her way to revolutionising the pottery industry, creating one of Portmeirion’s most iconic designs, Botanic Garden – a design that is just as popular today as it was when it was first launched in 1972. Uniquely different, Botanic Garden has become a classic British design, hailed as one of the world’s most popular casual tableware collections. 

Susan’s ethos continues to live on today as we continue to craft our pottery with a unique spirited individuality, taking inspiration from the beauty of nature to bring the outdoors in. 

Sara Miller is an award-winning British designer who brings to life her vision of print, pattern and colour inspired by her adventures from around the world. Enjoying drawing from a young age, Sara studied art and textiles growing up, graduating from university with a degree in textile and surface pattern design. Loving colour, pattern, and rich texture, Sara’s vision is to create designs that are uplifting and bring a sense of happiness into everyday life.

Sharing a passion for beautiful design, Portmeirion and Sara Miller London have been collaborating since 2017, first launching with the much-adored Chelsea collection. Together we've created distinct and sophisticated tableware and gift collections that make the simplest of occasions that extra bit special. 

Sophie Conran is a designer, cook, and mother of two who has created award-winning tableware collections designed to bring a touch of beauty to the everyday. As a child, Sophie had the opportunity to enjoy and learn from both her father’s design studio and her mother’s kitchen and garden – the inspiration for Sophie’s love of food and design.

Sophie turned her passion for cooking and home into her work, writing recipe books, launching a gourmet collection of handmade pies, and has penned regular food and entertaining pages for many UK magazines.  

Collaborating since 2006, Portmeirion and Sophie have created dinnerware, cookware and glassware collections that are renowned for their quality, versatility, and durability. Adorning homes around the globe, the collections are designed to be enjoyed with good food, family, and friends. Bringing a touch of beauty to everyday dining.

Hannah, the founder and creative director of Wrendale Designs, is an award-winning artist who has combined her passion for wildlife and animals with a lifelong love of art and creating. Inspired by the animals she sees in the Lincolnshire countryside and their captivating personalities; our collaboration has resulted in a much-loved collection that is adored across the globe.

Now celebrating 10 years of Wrendale Designs, our collection began with just six mugs and has grown to include a range of tableware, cookware, kitchenware, serveware, glassware, home fragrance, pet accessories, Christmas gifts and more. All perfectly giftable, every Wrendale piece brings happiness to everyone who owns it.
