Minerals Style Guide: The Emotional Power of Colour

Minerals Style Guide: The Emotional Power of Colour

Colour consultant and designer, Charlotte Cropper, believes colour is one of the most powerful tools we have to shape the way we feel at home. Charlotte’s work is all about giving people the confidence to use colour in ways that feel authentic and joyful.

“Colour is not just something we see, it’s something we feel,” says Charlotte. “Certain tones lift our energy, others calm us, and some remind us of our favourite memories.”

Together with Portmeirion, Charlotte has been exploring the Minerals collection, featuring five shades inspired by nature that bring both beauty and meaning to the everyday table. Read on to find out more.

Moonstone: Calm Clarity

Moonstone is the softest shade in the collection, a pearly, almost luminous white with gentle warmth. Charlotte describes the colour as “a symbol of purity and simplicity, bringing a sense of clarity and calm to a space.”

This makes Moonstone the perfect neutral backdrop. Whether you’re setting the table for a quiet breakfast or a festive dinner, it pairs effortlessly with other tones, allowing your food and flowers to take centre stage.

Rose Quartz: Nurturing Warmth

Gentle and soothing, Rose Quartz is one of Charlotte’s favourites. “Pink has a calming effect on our bodies. It’s nurturing and warm,” she explains.

This delicate shade works beautifully alongside other neutrals to create a soft, harmonious table. Pair it with Moonstone for a serene look or combine with bolder shades like Amethyst or Jade to add depth while keeping the mood balanced and welcoming.

Amethyst: Depth & Imagination

Amethyst is where boldness meets elegance. “Historically tied to spirituality, wisdom, and inner reflection, purple invites a sense of depth and imagination”, explains Charlotte. “A little goes a long way. Use Amethyst as an accent to add richness and intrigue.”

Perfect for evening dining or when you want to create a more dramatic setting, Amethyst can be layered with lighter shades to stop it feeling too heavy.

Aquamarine: Refreshing Peace

If you love the calm of the sea, Aquamarine will speak to you. It blends the clarity of blue with the balance of green, bringing a feeling of renewal and rest. Charlotte describes it as “a breath of sea air… refreshing and peaceful, perfect when you want the food and the moment to shine.”

Pair Aquamarine with natural texture, such as linen, wood, rattan, for a relaxed, coastal-inspired table, or layer with Jade for a striking contrast between calm and energy.

Jade: Bold Energy

The newest addition to the Minerals palette, Jade is rich, vibrant and full of personality. “Where Aquamarine soothes, Jade energises,” says Charlotte. “It’s joyful and just a little bit unexpected.”

A bold teal with real presence, Jade is perfect for entertaining. Try using it as your statement piece surrounded by calmer shades like Moonstone or Rose Quartz to let its vibrancy shine.

Finding Your Minerals Colour

For Charlotte, the true beauty of colour is how personal it is. Charlotte says, “The key when choosing colour for your home, even in the little details, is to celebrate you and your story.”

So, whether you’re drawn to the calming simplicity of Moonstone, the nurturing warmth of Rose Quartz, or the bold vibrancy of Jade, each shade in the Portmeirion Minerals collection is designed to bring joy and meaning to your everyday rituals.
