The Art Of Our Pottery

The Art Of Our Pottery

We’ve spent decades perfecting our craft. The vision of our founder, Susan Williams-Ellis, was brought to life through a heritage of pottery trade in Stoke-on-Trent, where Susan came to open the Portmeirion factory in 1960.

Today, that passion for creating unique and quality products continues to be at the heart of the ware we craft. All thanks to the wealth of knowledge and nurtured talent from our highly skilled team, the personal touch we give to every piece of Portmeirion ensures you take home truly timeless pieces. In fact, each and every piece passes through at least 22 pairs of hands before being ready for your home! So, when we talk about a personal touch, we really mean it.

Our Stoke-on-Trent earthenware factory is a hive of creativity and craft with up to 150,000 pieces being manufactured every week. We also work with some of the best porcelain and fine bone china factories in the world, benefitting from their expertise in these materials, making sure we continually deliver superior products for which Portmeirion is renowned.

As well as manufacturing, our ceramics are also designed from our home in Stoke-on-Trent - from tableware and cookware to giftware and home accessories, our expert Design Team are true visionaries.

A huge amount of expertise and time goes into our production, it's a real labour of love, but one we're hugely passionate about as we continue to follow in the footsteps of our pioneering founder. Susan Williams-Ellis dreamed to bring beauty to everyday moments and we continue to work with that same spirit, to serve an art to the everyday.
