Portmeirion Welcomes HRH, The Princess Royal to celebrate Botanic Garden's 35th Anniversary

Portmeirion's well-loved design Botanic Garden is hailed as the world's most popular casual tableware and giftware pattern. Celebrating both the 35th Anniversary of their most popular design, and a record-breaking set of profit results for 2006 - the company was joined by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal at their factory in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday 11th May.
The Princess Royal was treated to a detailed tour of the factory, which produces 5 million pieces of quality ceramic ware every year.

Michael Haynes, Portmeirion's Group Sales and Marketing Director, said "When Botanic Garden was launched in 1972 it immediately became a home interiors fashion trend, and has since grown to become a British design icon with instant recognition around the world. It's a wonderful privilege to have the Princess Royal join us in our celebrations, and a great tribute to the success of Portmeirion over the years."

The Princess Royal stopped to talk to some of Portmeirion's longest serving staff, several of whom have been with the company for the life of Botanic Garden, and more. One of the staff, Lyn Poole, who works organising the print of the floral motifs, and has been with the company for 36 years, said "It was a great honour to meet Her Royal Highness. I joined Portmeirion before Botanic Garden was launched, and I never imagined that 35 years on I would be celebrating a design that has lasted so long and remains so popular."

As a lasting farewell, The Princess Royal was presented with a unique gold-etched Botanic Garden 35th Anniversary vase by Portmeirion's Chief Executive Lawrence Bryan, and also unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit, which will stand alongside that of the one unveiled by Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret marking her visit in 1992.
