Remove all the packaging before use. Save the safety/burning instruction for future reference. The candle may not be fully burnt after a single burning periods and you may want to light it again at some later date
Place candles in or on a suitable non-flammable holder that can also collect any spilled wax. Hot spilled wax can damage polished surfaces. Place the candle and holder on a heat resistant surface for further protection.
Take care when using sharp knives to trim candles to fit holders
.

If you use floral rings to decorate your candles please remember that they are for decoration only and should be removed completely before igniting the candle since they may be made from a flammable material.
Do not place candles in direct sunlight or on/near a direct heat source such as a fire or radiator as this can affect the way the candle burns. Please remember that electrical items like television sets also get hot and so should be treated like a source of heat.
Keep the candle well away from flammable materials such as curtains and bedding. Remember that other materials and surfaces can also be damaged by heat. Ensure that there is adequate space above the candle to allow for the heat from the flame.
Please remember to keep the flame away from clothes and hair.
Candles should not be burned in a draught. A draught can cause them to burn unevenly and cause instability.
Make sure that burning candles are placed correctly in an upright position and in such a way that they cannot fall or be knocked over.
Do not place burning candles closer together than 10cm (4 inches).
Before lighting and relighting the candle, ensure that the wick is trimmed to 0.5cm (0.25 inches). If the flame becomes large or smoky, extinguish and trim the wick as above.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Please remember that a burning candle has a naked flame. Do not fall asleep with a burning candle in the room, particularly in bedrooms.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Avoid touching or moving the candle when it is alight. Hot wax can burn the skin. Only handle the candle and holder when the flame has been extinguished and the holder is cool.
When "blowing" a candle out beware of the flame and spilling hot wax.
Using a "Candle Snuffer" is preferable.
Do not allow foreign objects such as spent matches, wick clippings etc.; to fall into the top of the candle or flame. These can cause the candle to flare up and cause damage.
In order to obtain the best results from your candle, do not burn for more than 3 hours at any one time. Before relighting, trim away any residues of unburned wax.
Be careful when using sharp knives to trim wax.
Do not allow a candle to burn down completely. It is wise to extinguish the candle when it gets to within 5cm (2inches) of the holder or in the case of a candle in a container, before it is finished. This minimises the risk of the candle or handle overheating. Take care when using sharp knives to remove unburned wax from holder.

CONTAINER CANDLES IN GLASS, CERAMIC ETC; & VOTIVES

These types of candle liquefy when in use to maximise the release of fragrance and should be burnt in a suitable container to contain the molten liquid.

Only Portmeirion Scented Candle Refills should be used in the Portmeirion Scented Candleholder.

Portmeirion Scented Candle refills should only be burnt in the Portmeirion Candle Holder. When reusing any container for candles, carefully remove - by washing, any residual wax and wick. Take care when using sharp knives to remove unburned wax from holders.

Ensure that the container is in good condition, free from chips, cracks and scratches.

Since the containers will become hot, the surface on which they stand should be protected from the heat.

Do not burn these products on top of a television or other warm place.

Never let the flame come into contact with the container.
